Biographical Summary

José Soto Barea, known as “Sorderita”, was born in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) in 1961, into a prestigious gypsy family of artists: he is the son of the singer El Sordera and brother of Vicente, Enrique and the singer Lela Soto. He grew up in Madrid, where he began his professional career. In the early 80s, he was a founding member of the group Ketama together with Ray Heredia and Juan José Carmona “El Camborio”, becoming one of the main promoters of the new flamenco in Spain. With Ketama, he recorded fundamental albums and participated in the explosion of flamenco fusion, before starting his solo career after leaving the group in the 90s. Since then, Sorderita has developed a career as a solo artist, composer and producer, collaborating with numerous artists and remaining active in the national and international flamenco and music scene.
