Miguel Flores Quirós, known artistically as El Capullo de Jerez, was born on April 3, 1954 in Cantarería street in the Santiago neighborhood, in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). Raised in a profoundly flamenco environment, as a child he was surrounded by great figures such as Tío Borrico, El Terraço or La Paquera, who decisively influenced his artistic training. His nickname was given to him by his mother, Isabel “La Moza”, because he was small and resembling a silk flower.

Although he is the only professional singer in his family, his brothers and sisters also dance, and they all inherited their love for flamenco art from their mother. El Capullo de Jerez is considered an old-fashioned artist, trained in the school of life and a singer around the clock. He is distinguished by his mastery of party clubs, especially bulerías, tangos and rumbas, and for his unique ability to balance the thirds and transmit the genuine beat of Jerez.

Over the course of almost three decades of his professional career, he has performed at hundreds of parties and meetings, consolidating himself as an uncataloguable figure admired both by the Roma public and by Payo. His personal and rapturous singing has been praised by flamenco greats, including Paco de Lucía himself2. In 2019, he celebrated fifty years on stage and presented his album My music, reaffirming its validity and authenticity in the current flamenco scene.

El Capullo de Jerez is, in short, a reference for canto jondo, with its own style and an unmistakable stage presence, which keeps alive the purest and most festive essence of flamenco in its land.
